As the snow fell outside, over a hundred brave ladies came out to Annual Valentine’s Teas hosted by the United Church Women’s (UCW) – Unit #2. With a tropical theme, the tea warmed guests with island inspired decorations, Valentine themed treats and an opportunity to catch up with friends and neighbours on a cold winter day.

The organizers agreed that it takes a lot of planning for this annual event and they were pleased to see this many people show up on such a day. This tea is a big fundraiser for the unit and they really appreciate the support.
Money raised from this tea fund the Unit’s Fairy Godmother Shoppe http://bit.ly/2WGWGw6 , an initiative to collect gently used prom dresses and formalwear to distribute to girls who are not otherwise been able to afford a gown for graduation. The unit also provides bursaries to help girls with the cost of post-secondary education.
The highpoint of the afternoon came with a judging of the best dressed guest. Guests dressed in tropical outfits paraded around the hall to the laughter and applause of guests. When it came down to a tie between Carol Valin and Myrna Palmer, there was a run off and the prize of a gift certificate to café 340 went to Mrs. Campbell.
Organizers were pleased with the outcome this year. When asked if there was a theme planned for next year’s event, they hinted there may be a red carpet in the future. Stay tuned.
