They spun and they twirled, they jumped and they whirled as they presented “The Colourful World of Skating” on Friday night at the Shawville Arena. More than 70 skaters took part in the show which attracted an audience of over 300.
The beautifully choregraphed program saw each group of performers skating to a colour-themed song. There were purple people eaters, yellow polka dot bikinis, red high heels and even an appearance by the boys in the bright white sports car. While the colours of the costumes may have varied, the smiles on the skaters’ faces were the one constant. From the shuffling new skaters to the seasoned seniors, they were proud to show off all that they had accomplished this year.
Throughout the evening, coaches Dana Wilson and Kayla Savard handed out award for sportsmanship, most improved, CanSkate champions and special volunteers (the list follows).
The hour and a half long show ended with a spectacular number set to “Over the Rainbow” with all of the skaters taking to the ice for one last as the season drew to a close.
Following the show, the skaters and their families enjoyed coffee and baked good in the Lion’s Hall.
