Could it be that we have become a wine tour destination? If the criteria is beautiful scenic vineyards, passionate winemakers and the offer of art and culinary treats, then we are indeed.
With the opening of The Little Red Wagon Winery this year, wine enthusiasts now have three excellent destinations to explore in our region, each offering a different take on wine tourism.
Take a short drive to Quyon to visit the Domaine de Pontiac Village. Since 2007, Maude and Pavel have been cultivating over 6,000 vines to offer red, rosé and white wines. All are available for sampling and purchase on site. Wander over to the their antique car museum to see an impressive collection of vintage cars. The owners are passionate about wine making and the vineyard, so be sure to seek them out. They are always happy to talk about their wine and their operation.
A short drive away is Lavender Ridge. Surely you have seen all of the beautiful vines that grow on the roadside at the four lanes in Luskville. Lavender Ridge Winery takes advantage of the unique geography and geology of the land to produce the LaVigne wine, named for the family that worked the farmland for generations. LaVigne won a bronze medal at the 2014 Finger Lakes International Wine Competition.
The on-site store has a wide selection of bath products, creams, salves, balms and oils made with lavender and natural ingredients. Visit on the weekend to by fresh baked breads, pies and cookies.
Right here in Shawville we now have the Little Red Wagon Winery, a bustling new addition to the local scene. Scott and Jenn offered three new wines this year- red, white and rosé and opened their doors to a beautiful new building right on site.
It was not long before they began to host wedding and events. Throughout the summer months they have also offered lunch, dinner and tapas meals by Stillwater Catering.
Take some time to browse all that his winery has to offer. Jenn is a talented artist and showcases her art throughout the winery. You will also find locally sourced products and gifts for purchase.
