Snowmobile Trail Open House

January 19 - 19, 2020

Oh what fun it is to ride!  Snowmobiling in the Pontiac is a spectacular way to spend a chilly winter day, especially when it’s free.

Every year, the Quebec Federation of Snowmobile Clubs offers free access to the trails during an open house weekend.  It’s a great way for everyone from beginners to seasoned riders to experience the thrill of this exciting winter sport.   Riders must register for the free access pass on the Federation’s website  here   http://bit.ly/2QHTDDh

The snowmobiles must be plated, insured for liability, have one rear view mirror, a working speedometer, and functionnal lights.

Need some information about local trails?  The Pontiac Snowmobile Drivers’ Association has a great website that gives current conditions and  maps of their 362 km  trail system throughout  Luskville, Quyon, Shawville, Kazabazua, Ladysmith, Lapêche.  Learn more at their website here  http://bit.ly/30eXhaH

If you are heading out to take part in this free weekend, please stay safe by following a few tips:

  1. Operate a machine that is the right size for you. Never give a young person a machine with more horsepower than they can safely operate
  2. Know the area where you are operating and have permission to operate on private land
  3. Dress for the weather and always wear your helmet
  4. Ride with a buddy
  5. Driving a snow machine while impaired carries the same penalties as operating a motor vehicle
  6. When operating on lakes or rivers, know the ice conditions. Ice must be at least 25 cm thick
  7. Be prepared for an emergency with a first aid kit, signally flares, something to build a fire if needed.
  8. Use common sense.
  9. Make sure that your sled is in good mechanical condition and safe to ride.
  10. Be aware of your surroundings.

Have fun!
